Waldemar Swierzy was born in Katowice, Poland in 1931. Having studied at Cracow Academy of Fine Arts, in the Department of Graphic Arts in Katowice, he graduated in 1952. Later, he taught at what became Poznan Academy of Fine Arts and lectured at Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts.

Mark Rothko

Rothko is world-famous American painter who was born in Dvinsk, now Daugavpils, Latvia, in 1903. Strangely enough, in November 2001 during the Prince of Wales! visit to Latvia, Prince Charles mentioned his desire to visit any remarkable local sights relating to Mark Rothko, and it turned out that there were no such places in the city. Now there is a Mark Rothko`s exhibition in the Daugavpils Museum of geography and culture, and in the near future a Mark Rothko`s Art Center is going to open.
